OxyContin
This guide is an introductory list to help locate research materials at the Rowland Medical Library. OxyContin is a semisynthetic opioid analgesic prescribed to relieve moderate to severe pain. It is available in controlled-release tablets ranging from 10mg to 160mg in strength. The active ingredient is oxycodone. OxyContin has a potential for addiction similar to morphine and has been abused by patients for whom it was prescribed as well as others. Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer, has worked with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to strengthen the warnings and precautions in the drug's labeling.
